about

This album was written by Mount Eerie (Phil Elverum), Julie Doiron, and Fred Squire. It was released in 2008.

I was introduced to Mount Eerie by my friend Chris who I met in the Peace Corps. Chris, like me, is really into music that is emotional and often times sad. Music works as a coping mechanism and this album is the epitome of that for me, and I imagine for Mr. Eerie too.

This album took me just under a year to complete. Not because I was meticulously going through the songs and making sure there are no mistakes and everything is perfect (in fact there are quite a few mistakes). I would work on some songs and then the deep meaning and gut renching feeling I'd get in working on these songs would steer me away for a while.

For Example:

"The breath that moves the branches saying words that I don't know

Blows from nowhere

Just destroying

For no reason"

"My heart is ponding and I don't know where I am...Lost Wisdom."

"By the edge of the stream at dusk, is a quiet echo, on loud wind."

"Oh my heart, there you are: mouse nest in my hair.
Oh my heart, stowaway. I stopped looking.
Oh sleepy heart, what do you say? Should we keep thumping?"

Thank you to Phil Elverum and helping me cope with some tough stuff in life.
